a new love for the 'vintage skater dress'

The fashion concept of the figure skating dress and boots as we know them now originated in 1920's and should be credited to the legendary "Queen of Ice" Sonja Henie who won numerous Olympic and World titles before becoming a movie star and producer.
Sonja Henie's contribution to the world of ice skating fashion is the introduction of the short embellished dress which is as much part of the competition as the skaters' skills. Before that the skater's attire consisted of regular street clothes. The idea of women wearing white ice skating boots was also originated by her when both genders wore black boots. Sonja ice skating look reflected 20's flapper dress with shorter hemlines, slightly mannish bodice and cloche hat.
Micro, mini or maxi skirt length were acceptable in 1970's fashion world and lighter weight clothes started being more popular with introduction of central heating in enclosed space and easier travel. The fashion included many fashion movements ranging from hippie to disco. Hippie movement fashion influence extended into ethnic silhouettes, flared and bell bottom jeans. Preppies wore color coordinated separates. Dark punk and rock inspired fashions were alongside skin tight glitzy Disco spandex. The 70's laid a way to new fabrication development, hot-fix Swarovki crystals and other embellishments. Along with the mainstream fashion the ice skating dresses became more lightweight with better performance fabrics, covered less skin and showed crystal based embellishments. "America's Sweetheart" trend setter and Olympics gold medal winner Dorothy Hamill gave the world her famous "wedge" hair style along with a deep v-neck crystal embellished dress with fluid and lightweight fabric.

Lets go black -

again, here we have a more vibrant floral rose pattern yet suttle with the pastel green and slight hint of shadowed grey, also with the elasticated waist band to gently highlight your waist.

flaunt those curves!

Zara

I was hoping to find a pair of less vibrant slightly suttle nude leather heeled sandals, and where better to find them then zara.co.uk. This sandals are the start of a new trend, theyre elegant, not so difficult to walk in and with the strap based above the ankle, theyre even comfortable to wear during the day time.

both looks contribute to a look of modern vintage and yet has the cool vibes from the hippie culture. I cannot wait to purchase these items from both

Sunday 7 April 2013

Slightly crazed this spring over the 'Midi' look. I don't know about you but this is a fashion craze that almost every woman is into these days. They can be so flattering and comfortable and you can wear them almost anywhere social.
Just don't attempt theme parks in them.

"The midi skirt was a popular length in the 1940s, a fashion decade known for its elegance and grace."

The fashion world is all about the midi skirt/dress
Today's modern fashions are entirely different to what we're used to, due to re-inventing styles and creating new trends based on a era we weren't around in. Some designers are exploring the 'longer length' skirts once more but with a more subtle approach.

This look has got to be one of my favourites for this Spring. Origienating from the Bohemian (Boho)/Hippie genre. It's a traditional fit, flattering and consists of such beautiful colours. It's a must have for me this year.

The eligeable fashion of the Midi' skirt is versatile beyond contentment. It's a fashion statement of elegance, hippie, and can be worn buy those who are less comfortable with wearing items that are figure hugging. (within reason)

The patterns set for this summer 2013 are absolutely amazing and I know for a fact I will be taking them into great consideration. They're beautiful, creative and bring a shed load of heritage from a variety of cultures from the Greek, African, West Indian and Afro Caribbean cultures.. please visit the link above.

other examples of their new collection are...

The End...

So with such an amazing collection, I can now conclude that I will be researching into these patterns and the history behind them as soon as possible. I would like the views and opinions of others also. I know that a lot of people have also gone a little d&g mad over the last few months so I hope you've enjoyed this short post. There will be more to come :)! Take a look at the website links posted above and see whats in store for both Autumn and Winter 2013.

Midi-love (I)

Hi guys.
So basically I've decided to update my polyvore 'look-book' and create my first ever
'spring choice of the week.' I'm stacking up some outfits to put together this year to make my wardrobe a little less boring and more 'out there' the cheap and cheerful way, this way I will be able to look back on my blog and take photographs of me wearing the same or similar outfits I've been able to create.
I guess its more of a 'to-do list' kind of post.
Some of the items below are priced in American dollars, however, after researching I know I'm able to convert a lot of the prices into pounds, which makes me feel so much better. The beauty products I already have so that isn't too much of a problem.

Take a look and see what you think ;)!

Aztec print dress
$23 - chiarafashion.co.uk

Color block boots
ebay.co.uk

Smashbox eyeliner
beauty.com

Creme eyeliner
$5.80 - eyeslipsface.co.uk

Summary - So to kick start why I have chosen this outfit, I'll start with the beauty products. 'Gorgeous Cosmetics colorful eye makeup' is totally to die for and as I stated in the post below, my initial choice of palette would be, nudes and natural colours to enhance my eye colour (brown) with the 'Creme eyeliner'  in black to enhance the beautiful glow of the whites, golds, browns and blacks for a neutral 'Smoked-eye' effect. A water-proof mascara to keep my watery eyes at bay. (No time for panda eyes.)
Dark pink lips for lusciousness.
The Midi-dress speaks for itself, it's figure hugging and does so much justice for curvy girls. (Make sure you are able to hide those lumps and bumps though, if not, it can look a little bit drastic!) The brown, colour block boots (love) are ankle length and typically just look amazing with the outfit. Tory Burch have fab smart/casual clutch bags whether big or small, I chose the smaller bag because it has an extended strap for a more casual look. The 'Vanessa Mooney pendant' headpiece is either a love or hate, depending on how you feel I suppose. I for one love the headpiece jewelry.

Hope you like.

Below I have taken some articles from fashionising.com to show 'what's in' for spring 2013 in terms of
make-up colours, styles and techniques.

Blue eyeliner / blue eyeshadow

Bright aqua to smokey dark sapphire, blue colours were making their way onto so many spring 2013 runways that you’d be amiss not to call it a trend. And these were no wallflower looks either: popping bright blues were more popular than ever.

Pink eyeshadow

Pink may be a daunting colour to dust on your eyes: after all, you don’t want a colour that washes you out or makes you look more tired than you are. But the spring runways proved that pink can really work, from soft pastel to bright fuchsia. It’s all about how you wear it.

my view.

I don't know about you, but i'm not so confident with luminous colours, especially when it comes to applying eye make-up, however, the colours above are beautiful and look stunning on those women.
I very often stick to the same old palettes that usually contain colours of natural, nude, whites, browns, beige's or golds...But that's just me.

Below I have posted photographs of eye-make-up techniques that I use to help me during application. Please share any views or comments.
Note; the pictures below are not my own.

stunning. (love the nude lip colour)
beautiful eye make-up for those beautiful evenings.
red lips are 100% in for spring and with the heavy eyes..
immaculate.
another glamours effect, black liner to enhance those beautiful brown eyes.

a touch of the new 'spring 2013' look. the pink looks beautiful against her blue eyes.

I have got to share these products with you. I'm so into make-up right now, but I will only approach these products with the mind frame 'less is more' because it is.
I love natural beauty routines. I've experimented with so many types of primers, foundations, concealers,  foundation based moisturizers,  concealer based moisturizes etc but it's always so difficult to establish which products are best suited to my skin.. I usually go for products that help my sensitive skin, either Mac, Bare Minerals, Naked, NARS, Stila, Benefit, The Body Shop usually do a range in natural products, Lush, the list is endless...
So here are just a few I'm working with.

A very basic step by step introduction on how to apply make-up my way, for the best results.

Step 1
Wash, cleanse and moisturize,
leave moisturizer to soak into the skin.

Step 2
Apply primer as a base coat.
Face primers enable foundation to stay fresher
 for longer throughout the day.

Step 3
Apply concealer (if necessary) under the eye area and blend with your fourth finger.
I say 'fourth' because it uses less pressure.

Step 4
Apply a small amount of foundation,
smooth around the skin using either a foundation brush,
or make-up sponge. (*never your fingers)

Step 5
High-light key areas using a lighter concealer,
cheek-bones, just below eyebrow bone and blend
accordingly.

How you choose to do the rest of your make-up is up to you.

(p.s I don't condone any women wearing make-up because they feel they're too ugly without it. make-up was not evented for 'ugly' women. It was evented to enhance your beauty. You are all beautiful)
